Pork Ears and Belly, Chicharron, 60 Degree Egg

Palay is a new Filipino restaurant in Fitzroy. Headed by the multi-talented Chef Fhred, it is an ambitious first restaurant after a string of successful catering and pop-up endeavours.
We started with a refreshing Calamansi soda. Calamansi is a bit like a kumquat, as is used as a citrus flavour in many Filipino dishes.
For mains we enjoyed the Beef Silog, with an amazing banana ketchup. Sizzling Pork Sisig served in cast iron, and Adobe Green Beans. All the dishes we chose were hearty, flavoursome and traditional.
For dessert, this is where Palay really innovates with all vegan desserts. We had the Biko, a sticky brown sugar pudding, with a calamansi curd and topped with toasted coconut & ube ice cream. It was a sweet beautiful pot of crunchy purple perfection.
With a pretty fit out, professional service and great vibes, Palay is the awesome filipino restaurant that we’d strongly recommend visiting when you are in the area.
Open Wednesday to Sunday. For brunch, lunch and dinner.
