It was a cold and rainy night, but that didn’t stop us from going out for a birthday dinner for my favourite and only brother. He recommended his favourite local Thai restaurant, Khun Thai. It was a popular place, with tables quickly filling up with hungry patrons.
We started off with chicken curry puffs, which had a crisp puff pastry and a rich meaty filling. It was paired with a light sweet chilli sauce. This was followed up with a serve of quail. The dish was well cooked, but the quail was overwhelmed by too much garlic and soy sauce.
For mains course, we had a wide variety of dishes to share. A thai mainstay, the Pud Kee Mau had flat rice noodles, fresh prawn & squid, and crunchy vegetables in a sweet soy sauce. Delicious! The roast duck red curry, was fragrant and a little spicy, with fresh tomato and pineapple adding different flavours in each bite. We got some roti on the side, which was so soft.
The service was friendly, but as there was only one waiter it took a bit of time for them to get to you. But the food came quickly once ordered.
I’d have to agree with my brother. Khun Thai is one of the best Thau restaurants in Elsternwick, and definitely worth visiting.
