Katsu King is a new Japanese restaurant in South Yarra. With katsu curry being one of my favourite Japanese dishes of all time, I had to give this place a try. They have a large menu with most dishes centring around katsu cutlets. Their cutlets are uniquely made with 27 different layers of meat.

I tried the katsu curry with pork cutlet. The cutlet crumb was nice and crispy, but I didn’t enjoy the 27 layers of meat inside. Too many layers for a cutlet really. The curry was good, as was the rice. The accompanying miso soup was the perfect winter side dish. The food was quite affordable, just $15. Fast and friendly service too.

If you’re looking for an affordable Japanese meal, it’s worth giving Katsu King a try.
